Mamata Banerjee is taking the protest forward amid turmoil in TMC
Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee said she is going ahead with the dharna planned in Kolkata on Tuesday despite not having police permission, media reports said.
“If we are not allowed to hold dharna (Protest) Wherever I am stopped, I will sit. “I am ready to be arrested,” Banerjee said. Hindustan Times.
The protest is against alleged attacks on party leaders and the eviction drive by the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state.
Banerjee is at loggerheads with the BJP after recently losing the elections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party.
On Sunday, TMC leader and Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee claimed that he was attacked, leaving him with an eye injury. He described it as a “BJP sponsored” attempt on his life.
Meanwhile, internal strife is troubling TMC. The party on Monday expelled Assembly members Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha for anti-party activities.
