Trump reveals ‘secret mission’ to move tankers through the Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump said the US military has joined a “secret mission” to get oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
“Last month, I directed our great American military to execute a covert mission to support oil tankers and other commercial vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said with his typical capitalization errors on his Truth social platform.
Trump said, “Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 million barrels of oil moving through the Straits and into the open market.”
Trump said more than 200 commercial vessels “passed safely through the strait.”
Earlier, when Trump answered media questions in the Oval Office, he said that according to the US President, millions of barrels had already been moved out of the region without Iran’s knowledge.
“Do you know that we are extracting millions of barrels of oil, no one knows this,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Trump said, “You know who doesn’t know about it? Iran, yet.”
Oil reached pre-war levels in less than a week
Before the war, approximately 15 million to 20 million barrels of crude oil and an average of 125 to 140 ships passed through the strait daily.
Trump said 100 million barrels of US military aid moved through the waterway since Iran closed the strait following airstrikes by the United States and Israel on April 18, equivalent to less than a week’s worth of crude oil at pre-war levels.
