Over 2 million students appear for NEET-UG exam

Lakhs of medical aspirants on Sunday appeared for the highly competitive National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET-UG, which is required for admission to medical colleges across India.

After the exam earlier held on May 3 was canceled due to question paper leak, the nationwide exam was conducted on June 21 at 5,440 centers in India and 14 centers abroad under elaborate security arrangements.

A total of 2,279,743 candidates registered for NEET-UG 2026 for the May 3 exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not released the exact number of candidates who have downloaded the admit cards or appeared for the re-examination on June 21.

“About 2.1 million admit cards were downloaded and more than 2 million candidates appeared for the exam today,” the Indian newspaper said. Hindustan Times The news has been given quoting a senior NTA official.

The number of students who appeared for the re-examination was less than the number of students who appeared for the May 3 exam.

NTA Director General (DG) Abhishek Singh said, “This time a slightly lesser number of students appeared, which is natural as many students take admission in other colleges in other courses.”
