A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Venezuela on Wednesday afternoon, shaking buildings and homes in the capital Caracas.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake’s epicenter was located about 17 miles (28 kilometers) west of the community of Moron, located on the country’s Caribbean coast, about 104 miles south of Caracas.
The depth of the earthquake was 13 kilometers.
People evacuated buildings in Caracas
There were reports of tremors from Caracas, where people evacuated shaking buildings.
The earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, which were also felt in neighboring Colombia.
The US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami warning for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
