Pakistani Information Minister on Sunday said that Pakistan carried out ground operations and attacks along its border with Afghanistan.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said in a post late on Sunday that the operation was launched in response to “several recent terrorist incidents inside Pakistan”.
“Subsequently, well-planned attacks were carried out against terrorist hideouts and safe havens in the border area,” Tarar said.
Tara said at least 29 terrorists, including a senior commander, were killed in the attacks. He posted a blurry but graphic image purportedly showing the dead commander.
On Monday, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the airstrikes hit Paktika, Paktia and Kunar provinces. In an ex-post, Mujahid described the Pakistani military action as a “cowardly act of aggression”.
The strikes are the latest in cross-border violence
The attacks came a day after three paramilitary soldiers were killed in a bomb and gun attack in the southern port city of Karachi.
Pakistani Taliban’s splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, claimed responsibility for the Karachi attack.
The Pakistani Taliban is a separate terrorist group but is allied with the Afghan Taliban.
Islamabad accuses the Taliban of harboring terrorists who carry out deadly attacks inside Pakistan.
The Afghan Taliban, which seized power in neighboring Afghanistan in 2021, denies the charge.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have seen their relations descend into deadly armed conflict in recent months.
