US military launches new attacks against Iran

The US military has announced that it is launching new strikes against Iran.

The military said the strikes were in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the attacks were intended to “target and attack commercial shipping operated by innocent civilians in international waterways to impose heavy costs.”

“Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” CENTCOM said on its X account.

It is unclear what exactly the US military targeted, but according to Iranian media explosions were heard in the south of Iran.

According to Iranian reports, explosions were heard on Qeshm Island, with seven explosions heard in the city of Sirik.

It is reported that sounds of explosions were also heard in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.

The strikes came amid a 60-day ceasefire set out in the US-Iran memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries last month.

This comes as US President Donald Trump is in Türkiye for the NATO summit, where he met Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
