Monaco bomb attack suspect found dead in Ukraine

A Ukrainian woman suspected of a bomb attack targeting a wealthy Ukrainian-born businessman in Monaco was shot dead late Monday, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office said Tuesday.

Prosecutors also said they had detained an employee of Ukraine’s military intelligence service, the HUR, who they said murdered the woman in collaboration with another suspect.

Ukrainian Pravda Citing law enforcement sources, it was reported that the second suspect was a former law enforcement officer.

Authorities have identified the woman as “Anastasia Berezovska,” a 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen who became the subject of an Interpol red notice issued by authorities in Monaco last week.

Why were Monaco investigators looking for him?

Prosecutors in Monaco believed Berezovska was involved in the bomb attack targeting Ukraine-born Cypriot citizen Vadim Yermolayev, who reportedly faces sanctions from Kiev through 2023 over his business interests in Russian-occupied Crimea.

Yermolayev, his partner and son were injured in the attack last Monday, which shocked coastal tax havens and retreats for the rich and famous and was described by Prince Albert II as “a despicable act”.

Berezovska was identified by prosecutors, who at first thought she was a German-speaking person and noticed a tattoo on her arm. It is believed that she crossed the border on foot and reached France and then reached Germany by car via other countries including Italy.

German authorities later confirmed that he had a rented apartment in Frankfurt which they searched.
