Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, America launches new attacks

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on Twitter, reposting the CENTCOM announcement of the new attacks (see entry below) that “Iran made a bad choice. Now they pay.”

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received reports of an incident 9 nautical miles off the coast of Oman.

“Military officials have reported that damage has been caused to the stern of a container ship, resulting in a fire on board,” UKMTO said in a statement.

Iranian state-run Press TV reported explosions in the southern cities of Bushehr and Asaluyeh.

Mehr news agency also reported that explosions were heard on Qeshm Island.

According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, explosions also occurred in Bandar Abbas and Sirik.

The US military said one civilian crew member was missing and damage to the ship prevented it from continuing its voyage.

These attacks were carried out on the orders of President Donald Trump.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ navy said early Sunday it had closed the Strait of Hormuz after several ships attempted to pass through the strategic waterway.

Warning shots were fired at the ships and one ship stopped, the navy said in a statement posted on Telegram.

“The Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice and until the end of US intervention in the region and no ships will be allowed to pass,” the statement said.

“Any new acts of aggression against us will be met with a serious response and new enemy targets in the region will be targeted,” the statement said.
