The death toll from a massive fire at a pub in the Thai capital Bangkok has risen to 30, reports said on Tuesday, citing updated figures from city authorities.
Local media reports said three more victims died, increasing the initial death toll to 27.
Officials said more than 70 people were being treated in hospitals, including 24 in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police are investigating possible negligence, including that emergency exits were blocked as people struggled to escape the flames. Most of those killed were found trapped in windowless bathrooms.
The worst fire in Bangkok in 17 years
An explosive fire broke out at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a pub near the popular Chatuchak weekend market in northern Bangkok late Sunday night.
Footage circulated on social media showed a powerful inferno coming out of the bar’s door and people running for cover.
It took about half an hour for the firefighters to control the fire.
The fire is one of the deadliest in Thailand since 2009, when 67 people died in a fire at a nightclub on New Year’s Day.
On Tuesday, more mourners laid flowers and handwritten notes at the scene, while remains of the bar – including melted musical instruments and soot-covered chairs – lay on the sidewalk.
