The United States said on Thursday it would impose 10% to 12.5% taxes on imports from dozens of countries that account for 99% of US imports.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said, “The United States has had and rigorously enforced a ban on forced labor imports for nearly a century; it is time for our trading partners to do the same.”
“Today’s action will begin to correct both human rights abuses and distorted trade practices to improve the welfare of workers everywhere,” he said.
