A report was released on Wednesday by J7 big communities’ The Task Force Against Antisemitism group noted a record increase in antisemitic attacks worldwide.
The J7 looked at Jewish communities in Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Britain and the United States, which together are home to more than 90% of the Jewish population outside Israel.
The report reported that nearly 20 people were murdered in anti-Semitic attacks in Australia, Britain and the US in 2025, making it “the deadliest year for anti-Semitic attacks in the diaspora since the AMIA attack in Buenos Aires in 1994.”
The AMIA attack was a bombing that targeted a Jewish community center, killing 85 people.
The deadliest incident of 2025 was a mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration near Bondi Beach, Australia, in which 15 people were killed.
“Anti-Semitism is no longer on the rise in our seven countries; it is our new normal,” the J7 task force said in a statement.
“Governments must stop reacting after Jews are attacked and start taking action first, with real security funding, stronger laws, and social media platforms enforcing their own rules,” the statement said.
The J7 report found more than 23,000 anti-Semitic incidents in seven countries in 2025, a sharp increase from the 9,800 recorded in 2022.
Gaza remains a factor
The report highlighted that anti-Semitism appears to be a major driving factor for the increase in anti-Semitism, accounting for 48% of incidents in the UK and 45% of incidents in the US.
According to the report, incidents increased in the years following the Gaza war, which began in 2023 following Hamas’ deadly October 7 attack.
The report found a 136% increase in anti-Semitic incidents from 2022 to 2025.
The report said that although the total number of incidents has decreased from 2024 to 2025, the figure remains well above the level before October 7, 2023.
Germany tops the list of anti-Semitic attacks
While Australia tops seven countries in terms of the sharpest increase in anti-Semitic incidents, Germany is the country with the highest number of anti-Semitic incidents, the report found, with rates nearly five times higher than Australia’s in both absolute and relative terms.
In 2025, there were approximately 70 incidents per 1,000 Jewish residents, increasing to 8,713 in 2024 and 2,610 in 2022, for a total of 8,725 cases.
Of the total cases, 807 were attributed to right-wing extremism, up from 562 in 2024.
Meanwhile, the number of anti-Semitic attacks due to leftist, anti-imperialist extremism also increased from 349 to 501. Incidents related to Islamic extremism increased from 143 to 166.
The report found that “anti-Israel activism” was responsible for 22.6% of all recorded incidents in Germany in 2025.
Joseph Schuster, chairman of the German Central Council of Jews in Germany, said the numbers represented “the ongoing normalization of anti-Semitism” in Germany.
Schuster called for legislation to “close existing loopholes in the criminal law and consistently criminalize calls for the destruction of the State of Israel.”
