K-pop powerhouse BTS said Wednesday they will not submit songs for consideration for the 2027 Grammys next February.
The seven band members released a single Korean-language note online of the concert.

They said they did not want to be included in the new Grammy category, Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which is seen as a way to classify releases from Japan and China into K-pop or J-pop and C-pop, respectively.
The newly reformed BTS, touring to promote a new album after returning from military service hiatus, appears to be at the forefront of this category.
The band’s message read, “We hope that our music can be heard and loved rather than divided by region or language.” “We thank the army [the band’s colloquial term for the BTS fan base] And everyone who has always stood with us.”
Critics of the new Grammys argued that it could serve as an exclusionary barrier preventing Asian pop music from winning other awards. Supporters argued that it is the latest of several genres added to the list of more than 90 Grammy categories.
Has BTS won a Grammy before?
No, but the band was nominated for a total of five.
Three times they were shortlisted as Best Pop Duo or Group Performance, once due to their contribution to Coldplay’s “Music of Spheres”, and once shared a nomination for Best Album of the Year for their music video “Yet to Come”.
Until this year’s ceremonies, no K-pop act had won a Grammy Award.
“Golden” from the Netflix animated film “Kpop Demon Hunters” won the award for Best Song for Visual Media, a decision that caused excitement in South Korea, despite the song’s American roots and fictional performing artists.
BTS tour to promote ‘Erirang’ after military service return
BTS reformed and returned to frontline performances this year after a four-year hiatus.
He has released and is now promoting a 14-track album, “Arirang” – named after Korea’s most famous traditional folk song and unofficial national anthem, which roughly translates to “My Beloved One”.
The band spent much of the summer in the US during the World Cup and their world tour, including a performance at the controversial halftime show of the World Cup final this month.
This fifth studio album comes after a four-year break as the band members completed South Korea’s mandatory military service and pursued solo projects.
