US, Saudi forces attack Iran-backed targets in Iraq
The US military says it has carried out precision strikes alongside Saudi forces against Iran-backed militants in eastern Iraq.
US and Saudi warplanes struck several weapons storage and logistics sites, US Central Command, or CENTCOM, said on Friday.
CENTCOM said the operation followed more than 30 drone attacks in the past 72 hours. The US military accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of directing attacks against US troops and Saudi energy infrastructure.
CENTCOM said the attacks on US forces failed.
Earlier, CENTCOM said it had foiled an attempted Iranian “surprise attack” involving multiple ballistic missiles fired at US forces in the Middle East.
All missiles were intercepted, the US military said. While CENTCOM did not identify their intended target, US news outlet Axios reported that they were headed towards a US military base in Jordan.
The attack came despite President Donald Trump’s announcement that US strikes on Iran were being halted to allow more time for negotiations.

US, Saudi Arabia attack Iran-backed terrorists in Iraq
The US military said it carried out multiple strikes on Iraq in the early hours of Wednesday in coordination with Saudi Arabia.
US Army Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes targeting Iraqi militias were in retaliation for attacks on US troops and Saudi energy infrastructure in the region by “Iran-aligned terrorists” in Iraq.
“In response to more than 30 IRGC-directed aerial drone strikes over the past 72 hours, US and Saudi warplanes struck multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq,” US military Central Command said.
CENTCOM said the latest attacks against Saudi Arabia, which ended a day-long lull in fighting, were directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further U.S. military response,” it said.
