Israel’s parliament has passed a law to set up a special military tribunal to try hundreds of Palestinians accused of taking part in the October 7 2023 attack, under which the death penalty could be handed down. Lawmakers said the step would help heal national trauma, though some rights groups have criticized the measure, warning it does away with procedures safeguarding the right to a fair trial.
