India protests after death of 3 sailors in US attack, summons diplomat
The Indian government on Thursday lodged a protest against the US attack on a ship near Oman in which three Indian sailors were killed.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the Indian government summoned a senior US diplomat to convey its “deep concerns” about the attack and to formally protest the attack.
The Indian government later said in a statement, “We hope that the US will take due note of our protest against attacks on ships carrying Indian sailors.”
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry called for an end to “targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region.”
The head of the United Nations agency International Maritime Organization also condemned the attack.
Earlier, Indian Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had announced on Twitter that three Indians missing after the US attack on the tanker Settebello have died.
US Central Command said US forces had warned the crew before firing on the ship, which had allegedly attempted to breach its naval blockade with a shipment of Iranian oil.

Air India crash report faces criticism ahead of anniversary
The anniversary of the Air India Boeing-787 crash on Friday, ahead of a report by India’s aviation accident investigation agency, has drawn sharp reaction from pilot groups, according to an AFP report.
The June 2025 disaster killed 260 people, 241 on board and 19 on the ground, when the plane crashed into a medical college shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad.
According to local media, families expecting a final report revealing the cause of the crash will receive only interim updates from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
“I don’t have much confidence,” Charanveer Randhawa, president of the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP), told news agency AFP. “I’ll be very honest; they’re not transparent at all.”
The FIP has criticized the composition of the AAIB’s initial investigation team and its decision to interrogate the family of a deceased pilot.
On Friday, relatives of the victims will gather in Ahmedabad for a conference and candlelight vigil with aviation safety experts to demand answers.

Cockroach Janata Party to protest in Pune demanding removal of Education Minister
India’s Viral Cockroach Party is scheduled to protest in Pune on Thursday demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dupke on Thursday urged supporters to join the protest at Savitribai Phule Pune University at 4 pm.
The call comes days after hundreds of CJP supporters gathered in New Delhi on Saturday in the movement’s first major street protest.
The online campaign, which has attracted millions of followers, has capitalized on growing frustration among young Indians over alleged exam cheating, including the recent cancellation of the National Medical Entrance Exam after question paper leaks and concerns over the assessment of high school board exams.
Dupke also posted another video saying that if the minister does not step down, the CJP may start an indefinite strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi from June 20.
Dubke wrote, “…we will return from Delhi only after taking the resignation of the country’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.”
Last Saturday, the CJP had given an ultimatum to the government: either Pradhan resigns or Prime Minister Narendra Modi removes him.
“If no action is taken within seven days, this agitation will spread across the country,” the CJP said in a statement.
