DG Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday that the withdrawal operation started in Balochistan, a day after the attack and kidnapping on the Jafar Express train, has been completed. He said that all the terrorists present there have been killed. Speaking to news anchor Kamran Shahid on Dunya News show ‘On the Front’, he said, “In Bolna, terrorists targeted the railway tracks around 1 pm and blew it out of the explosion and stopped the Jaffer Express. According to the railway officials, there were 440 passengers on the train.”
Giving details of the operation, Lieutenant General Chaudhary said that it was very difficult to reach the area where the incident took place, as it was far away from the common area and road network. The report of the news agency AFP quoted Pakistani officials as saying that 30 armed Baloch militants and 28 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 346 hostages were rescued.
“Terrorists used hostages including women and children as a human shield. The rescue operation was immediately started,” he said. Chaudhary said that the soldiers of the Army, Air Force, Frontier Corps and SSG participated and freed the hostages.
He said, “They were in touch with their supporters and masterminds in Afghanistan via satellite phones during the terrorist operation. You saw that about 100 passengers were saved safely from the terrorists last evening and a large number of passengers have been rescued even today.” He further said that this process continued intermittently.
Today, he said in detail on the details of “Final Rescue Operation”. “All hostage passengers have been rescued. This campaign was carried out with great efficiency and caution, as the terrorists were using them as a human shield.
Asked if he is confirming the end of the operation with the killing of all the terrorists, DG ISPR said: “Yes, all the terrorists present there have been sent to hell and their total number was 33.”
