Kabul America has softened its attitude towards the Taliban. This is being said because the Donald Trump administration has now lifted the reward kept on three senior leaders of the Taliban. These leaders also include the internal minister of Afghan-Taliban, who are considered responsible for the bloody attacks on the former Western-backed government of Afghanistan. This information was given by Kabul officials on Sunday.
Sirajuddin Haqqani, who planned an attack on Serena Hotel in Kabul in January 2008, killing six people, including American citizen Thor David Haesla, no longer appears on the Rewards for Justice website of the US State Department. However, a wanted poster for Haqqani was still present on the FBI website on Sunday.
Afghanistan’s internal ministry spokesman Abdul Matin Kani said that the US government has canceled the reward imposed on Haqqani, Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Yahya Haqqani. Kani told the Associated Press, “These three people are two brothers and a cousin.” The Haqqani Network became one of the deadliest branches of the Taliban after the US -led attack on Afghanistan in 2001. The group used roadside bombs, suicide attacks and other attacks, including Indian and American Embassy, Afghan Rashtrapati Bhavan and other major targets. They have also been linked to ransom, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
External Affairs Ministry official, Zakir Jalali said that by the Taliban’s release and rewards on March 21, the Taliban shows that the two sides are “moving beyond the effects of the war -time phase and taking creative steps for progress in bilateral relations.” Jalali said, “Recent development in Afghanistan-US relations is a good example of practical and real engagement between the two governments.” Taliban is seeing an opportunity to get out of separation.
