The goods service center in Sachsenheim was expanded to include the now completed Hall West. With a gross floor area of 40,000 square meters, this offers additional capacities in the areas of storage, shipping, outgoing goods and returns. This increased the gross total area to over 115,000 square meters. The new building is also intended to optimize the processes using modern intralogistics. Processing times should be shortened and capacities should be pooled in order to prepare for the requirements of a dynamic market. A technical highlight in the West Hall is one of the most extensive autostore systems in Europe. The state-of-the-art storage and retrieval system allows for maximum use of space and accelerated access to stored items.
Breuninger CEO Holger Blecker about the expansion: “With the extensive expansion, our WDZ is one of the leading goods service centers for fashion in Europe and an important component of our long-term growth strategy. We ensure the supply of our entire trading business in ten European countries via our logistics location in Sachsenheim. By expanding our logistics capacities, we are not only creating the basis for further growth, but also strengthening our position as one of the leading omnichannel department stores in Europe. At the same time, we are optimizing our service promise and can be an even more reliable partner for our customers in the future.”
