Peter Todd’s presence did not go unnoticed at LaBitConf Argentina. The Canadian developer is one of the characters of the moment for the bitcoiner community after an HBO documentary identified him as the creator of the Bitcoin network, Satoshi Nakamoto.
In exclusive dialogue with CriptoNoticias, Todd referred to his alleged identification with the creator of the digital currencywhich has sparked a deep debate in the community and questions the sensationalist approach of the media, as is the case of the documentary “Electronic Money: The Mystery of Bitcoin.”
The production, which was released on Tuesday, October 8, suggests that Todd, active in Bitcoin development since 2010, It could be the missing Nakamoto.
During the second day of LaBitConf coverage, the CriptoNoticias team saw Todd having lunch in the open-air VIP sector, in pavilion 3 of Costa Salguero, Buenos Aires. While talking with other speakers, he left that space to talk with the representatives of this medium, Martín Arrúa (reporter) and Noelia Robles (camera).
In this context, the 39-year-old Canadian did not hesitate to answer the question that everyone wanted to ask him: “Are you the real Satoshi Nakamoto?«. With a smile on his face and a touch of humor, he said:
“Of course I do, I’m Satoshi Nakamoto.”

This response only reinforces the line of thought that Todd has raised from the beginning, regarding the mystery that surrounds the figure of Nakamoto: thousands of people could have created Bitcoin. “We are not going to find Satoshi,” he had expressed through his X account.
Of Cullen Hoback’s documentary, Peter Todd said: “Well, it’s another example of what a journalist does to make money. As simple as that. My guess is that the guy wanted to make a Bitcoin documentary. Then, after shooting a bunch of footage, he realized (referring to Hoback) he didn’t have a story that would work in film format.”
In that sense, he analyzed: “It was probably then when the idea of ’well, let’s reveal Satoshi’ occurred to him. Who are we going to reveal? Why don’t we pick some random guy that no one has considered, for a ‘we’ve found Satoshi and you’d never guess who he is’ marketing angle.”
One issue that may be overlooked is that, If Todd is the real Satoshi Nakamoto, he has a wallet with a million BTC in his possession. Faced with that question, the Canadian said: “The claims that Satoshi has millions of bitcoin are based on virtually no evidence. All of that is just taking all the money that hasn’t moved in a while and saying, ‘obviously, that’s Satoshi’s.’ But we know for sure that many, many people mined. I personally know a guy who thinks he lost about 5,000 BTC because he mined in the early days when it was still worthless.”
Likewise, he recalled that that person “at some point, he just wanted to use that computer for something else, so he formatted it and lost everything” and recommended: “So my only answer there is that, if you want to keep your BTC safe, do not delete your computer. But honestly, for the average person, it really depends on how much money you want to spend. But one of the simplest tips is to simply buy another phone and use it only for your BTC wallet,” he concluded.
It is worth clarifying that various investigations, such as those by Argentine Sergio Lerner, show that certain Bitcoin addresses actually belong to Satoshi Nakamoto.
