Republicans also hold a majority in the House of Representatives
The vote counting process is underway in the elections held on November 5 in America, and there are only a few weeks left for the official announcement of the results for all seats, but three television channels announced, based on their analysis, that the party won the largest number of seats. More than half of the 435 members of the House of Representatives won a greater number of seats.
Six results are still pending, and CBS said the party could win at least three more seats, bringing the current tally to 221. The media had previously reported that the Republicans had seized the Senate from the Democrats. At present, Republicans have 53 seats in the Senate, more than a majority. The total number of seats in the US Senate is 100.
312 electoral votes for Trump
A candidate to win the US presidential election needs 276 electoral votes. Control of both chambers of Congress would give Trump an advantage in moving through legislation and the budget. However, slight progress in the House can sometimes stop them. This leaves Democrats with fewer rights to challenge policies they disagree with. However, the narrow margin means Senate Republicans may still find it difficult to muster enough votes to take some action.
