Pilots at Germany’s major carrier Lufthansa have announced plans to go on strike again on Thursday and Friday, after a 48-hour strike on Monday and Tuesday led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
The airline is also facing disruption in cabin crew work on Wednesday and Thursday.
By the end of the week, Lufthansa’s twin labor disputes with the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) and UFO cabin crew trade union will lead to six consecutive working days of strike disruption.
What did the VC union say about its latest strike?
Andreas Pinheiro, president of the VC trade union, said on Tuesday that the strike over the past two days had brought no change to Lufthansa’s position.
“The situation remains unchanged – there has been no movement on the part of employers,” Pinheiro said. “Neither Lufthansa nor Lufthansa Cargo have presented any proposal with respect to a company pension plan, nor is there a viable proposal from Lufthansa CityLine for a new collective pay agreement or from Eurowings with respect to a company pension plan.”
The VC said it had recommended mediation to resolve the increasingly bitter labor dispute.
Nearly 900 flights were canceled Tuesday at Germany’s two busiest airports, Frankfurt and Munich, amid the ongoing strike.
