Ukraine said on Saturday it had struck a storage and maintenance depot for long-range Martyr drones in Russia’s Oryol region, “significantly reducing” Russia’s ability to launch a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army said in a statement on Telegram that the attack occurred on Thursday and was carried out by the Ukrainian Air Force.
“As a result of the attack, a depot for the storage, maintenance and repair of martyred kamikaze drones, composed of several protected concrete structures, was destroyed,” it said.
“This military operation has significantly reduced the enemy’s ability to carry out strike drone airstrikes against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.”
Moscow has not commented on the attack. Russia has regularly launched missile and drone attacks on Ukraine during its 34-month invasion.
For the past several months, Moscow has launched dozens of drones almost daily over Ukraine, hoping to damage its infrastructure and weaken air defenses, making them less able to shoot down missiles.
Ukraine’s air force earlier on Saturday said it had shot down 15 of the 16 drones launched by Russia overnight, while others disappeared from radar.
