On Saturday, September 7, presenter Max Kaiser announced that they have the “green light” to launch a new television channel on the Rumble platform. Kaiser said that it would be the only state-run media outlet in the world without censorship. This adds to El Salvador’s struggle to defend freedom of expression.
In the days leading up to the advertisementPresident Nayib Bukele met with Personalities such as Ricardo Salinas Pliegopresident of TV Azteca, and Chris Pavloski, CEO of Rumble, for the launch of this new project.
Bukele commented through his account in X that El Salvador “is a new refuge for ideas, freedom of expression and beliefs,” assuring that, while the world “sinks into chaos and government repression,” his country will be the “new beacon of hope for the world.”
Following the arrest of Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, Bukele commented that in his country people would never be arrested just for speaking openly, and that the rights of individuals to free expression are respected. This according to the reported CryptoNews.
What is known about this new channel?
At the moment, there are no details about the new channelbeyond the fact that it will be hosted on the Rumble platform and will have the support of Max Kaiser, presenter and considered the first Bitcoin millionaire; Ricardo Salinas Pliego, one of the richest men in Mexico; Stacy Herbert, president of the Bitcoin Office of El Salvador; and Matt Gertz, chief researcher at Media Matter, among others.
Rumble, on the other hand, is a streaming platform, a competitor of YouTube, which offers certain freedoms regarding censorship. Unlike YouTube, Rumble allows content related to firearms, goreviolence (under certain conditions) and politically incorrect themes. While YouTube has a more family-friendly focus, Rumble focuses on adult content (no nudity).
For the moment, more details about the channel are still awaited, such as when it will be launched. It also remains to be seen what role Bitcoin will play in all this and whether the currency will be at the center of the conversation, considering that it is the only real, decentralized and uncensored money.
