there are already 5 in less than a year

  • Block 948,146 was mined less than 7 days after block 947,073.

  • Umbrel offers three solo mining apps: Public Pool, DATUM and Bassin, all commission-free.

A user of the Umbrel platform alone mined block 948,146 of the Bitcoin network this May 6, less than seven days after another user of the same platform achieved the same result with block 947,073. The company confirmed the fact through its official account on X.

Block 948,146 included 2,768 transactions and generated a reward of 0.03 BTC, equivalent to about $2,435 at the current price. The previous block, 947,073, produced 0.016 BTC—approximately USD 1,299—with 2,587 transactions. Both were processed through Public Poolthe public pool integrated into Umbrel.

According to the firm, this is the fifth solo block mined through their platform in less than twelve months.

The recurrence of these events suggests that a growing number of individual miners are choosing to manage your computers autonomously through this operating system. A trend that until recently was considered marginal within the Bitcoin mining ecosystem.

Umbrel is an open source operating system designed for home use, which allows you to manage a Bitcoin miner from your own hardware. Through its interface, individual users can connect directly to the network, configure their mining equipment and nodes, allowing them to participate in the block mining process without depending on corporate infrastructure nor intermediaries.

The company did not attribute the results to technical modifications or particular network conditions. The events occurred within the standard operation of the platform’s public pool, according to its official communications. The firm itself recognized that the frequency of the phenomenon exceeded your expectations and consider incorporating it as an argument in the official description of your product.

Public Pool and the solo mining ecosystem within Umbrel

Public Pool operates under a model that provides infrastructure—Stratum server, block template, and network propagation—but does not distribute rewards among participants. Therefore, if a miner finds the block, they keep the full reward. Its integration with umbrelOS practically eliminates any technical barrier: the application is configured automatically to work with the user’s Bitcoin node without additional steps. Simply install it and point the mining hardware to the personal instance using the Stratum data provided by the app.

Public Pool is not the only option available in the Umbrel ecosystem for this purpose. The operating system’s app store also offers DATUM, developed by OCEAN, which allows both solo mining and pool staking, generating custom block templates from the user’s own node without depending on third-party servers.

A third alternative is Bassin, described in the app store as a zero commission solo mining pool running ckPool locally, without additional configuration. All three applications share the principle of returning full control over block construction and reward to the individual miner.

The firm itself recognized that the frequency of the phenomenon exceeded its expectations and is considering incorporating it as an argument in the official description of its product.
