Renewed attacks come amid stalled diplomatic efforts

The new attacks came after Iran stopped communicating with mediators about extending a ceasefire in the war with the US and Israel, according to reports from two semi-official Iranian news agencies on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump denied the claim and said negotiations were continuing.

Reports from Fars and Tasnim news agencies, both considered close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, came as tensions rose in Israel’s separate-but-related fight against the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In other developments, the US military said it fired a missile to disable an oncoming oil tanker Iranian port of Kharg Island.

US Central Command said it was the seventh ship intercepted by the military while attempting to enforce a maritime blockade of Iran.

The Botswana-flagged merchant ship M/T Lexi was intercepted by an aircraft by firing a Hellfire missile into its engine room after the crew ignored repeated warnings for more than 24 hours, the post said.

President Donald Trump announced the maritime blockade after talks between the Iranian and US delegations failed in April.

America and Iran launch fresh attacks in the Gulf

US Central Command said Iran fired missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain that were intercepted or deflected, prompting US forces to retaliate against Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM said on

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said it had attacked a US naval facility in Bahrain, the US Fifth Fleet headquarters, with missiles and drones.

Iranian state media reported that the Guardsmen attacked in response to US attacks on Qeshm Island.

Iran and the US said last week they had reached a temporary agreement to stop the war, but the two sides have not yet signed any agreement.

The US and Iran exchanged fresh fire in the Middle East on Wednesday as tensions continued over the fate of peace talks to finally end the conflict.

The US military said it carried out “self-defense” strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command said the strikes were in response to “attempted attacks by Iran throughout the Middle East”.

The US military also said it intercepted an oil tanker headed towards Iran that was trying to evade the US maritime blockade around the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its attacks on Kuwait were in response to US military action on Qeshm Island.

The IRGC claimed that it fired at least 10 ballistic missiles at Kuwait.
