Two killed, dozens injured in hospital fire in northern Germany

At least two people were killed and more than 30 injured when a fire broke out in the roof of a hospital in the northern German city of Ludwigslust early Thursday, police said.

According to Germany’s DPA news agency, officials said both patients who died were hospitalized.

What do we know about the Ludwigslust fire?

The cause of the fire in the hospital is not clear.

Many patients and staff were evacuated from the facility, which has 160 beds, according to the hospital’s Internet page.

This hospital is the only hospital in the city.

Police were initially unable to provide details about the severity of the victims’ injuries.

Ludwigslust is located in the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, 40 km (25 mi) south of the state capital Schwerin.
