Monaco authorities have issued Red notice to Interpol A Ukrainian woman is believed to have carried out a parcel bombing earlier this week that seriously injured a Ukrainian-born oligarch and two other people, including a 13-year-old boy.
An Interpol Red Notice is a request to locate and temporarily arrest a suspect. This is not an international arrest warrant.
The alert lists three charges: “attempt to murder, placing an explosive device in a public place with criminal intent” and “criminal conspiracy.”
What else do we know about the suspect and the case?
The suspect has been identified in the red notice as a 39-year-old woman, Anastasia Berezovska, a Ukrainian national.
It is believed that at the time of the crime she was dressed like a man – or at least she was mistaken for one; Initial reports based on CCTV footage in Monaco and the suspect crossing the open border into France mentioned a male suspect.
The Interpol notice states that Berezovska has black hair and a tattoo of “possibly a snake” on her right arm. It also specifies that she speaks German.
The Reuters news agency on Friday cited an unnamed judicial source in Monaco as saying he had been seen in Germany.
Authorities in Monaco first issued an arrest warrant on Thursday.
“An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect, who will be the subject of an Interpol red notice from this evening,” the prosecutor’s office said.
Monaco’s public prosecutor Stéphane Thibault said that investigators had identified the suspect through “international effective criminal cooperation, both police and judicial”.
What happened to Ukrainian oligarch Vadim Yermolayev?
On Monday night, an explosion at the entrance of a residential building in Monaco, near the French border, injured three people, two of them seriously.
While Monaco authorities have not officially identified the victims, multiple media reports said the apparent target was Vadim Yermolayev, a 58-year-old Ukrainian-born businessman who holds Cypriot citizenship and is a resident of Monaco.
The other two injured were Yermolayev’s partner and teenage son. As of Wednesday, the businessman’s condition was out of danger, while his partner was still not stable. The 13-year-old child was reportedly stable.
Kiev imposed sanctions on him in 2023, alleging he continued business activities in Russia-annexed Crimea and paid taxes to Moscow following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
