At least eight people were killed and 22 others wounded in an Israeli strike in central Gaza, local officials said Friday.
“Eight people were killed when Israeli warplanes attacked a gathering of civilians in the al-Balta market area of the Nusirat refugee camp in central Gaza,” Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency, which acts as a rescue service under Hamas, said.
Al-Awda Hospital said it received eight deaths and 22 injuries in the attack.

The AFP news agency reported that the attack occurred during a funeral procession and cited civil defense lawyer Mahmoud Bassal with information.
Israel’s military (IDF) said it had attacked a “terrorist cell” of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group and was aware that the attack could harm civilians.
“A short time ago, the IDF attacked a terrorist cell of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the central Gaza Strip,” the army said.
“The IDF is aware of claims that a number of unrelated individuals have been harmed as a result of the strike. The consequences of the strike are being reviewed.”
Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire deal in October, aimed at ending a two-year-long war that began with Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
However, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority, at least 1,127 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect.
The IDF says at least five soldiers have been killed in Gaza during the same period.
