The Justice Ministry of Germany’s Lower Saxony state confirmed on Tuesday that a man suspected of killing six people at a youth and women’s shelter in the city of Stade last month has died by suicide.
Identified as Fatih Khan Ji due to German privacy laws, the ministry said there was “no indication of third party involvement” in his death.
What happened at the stadium?
Ji is believed to have opened fire at the Mothers and Children’s Centre, killing six welfare workers.
According to officials, their three-month-old elder daughter and her 34-year-old son lived there. He was in a custody dispute with his former partner over the child, who showed symptoms of shaken baby syndrome.
He had reportedly earlier threatened a doctor at a medical practice where his daughter was seen.
He reportedly came to the shelter on June 29 to discuss allegations that he had physically abused the child. Ji tried to escape in a car but was caught by the police shortly afterwards.
