Berlin’s annual pride event, Christopher Street Day (CSD), has been canceled following a police incident that left several people injured.
“We believe a vehicle entered Tiergarten Park and struck and injured several people,” police posted on social media.
Police said they are conducting an intensive search for the suspects.
He said several officers and rescuers from the Berlin fire department were deployed to the Tiergarten area after a vehicle was believed to have run over people there, injuring several. The injured were being treated by emergency personnel.
Pride parade participants told to ‘please go home’
Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Berlin to advocate for tolerance and diversity, culminating in concerts at the Brandenburg Gate.
The event was cut short and police told participants, “Please go home.”
It was not immediately clear whether the incident was intentional or, if so, whether CSD was the target.
The CSD parade ended on 17 June Street, crossing Berlin’s Tiergarten and heading to the Brandenburg Gate, which has been the site of concerts since Friday.
