The finding contradicts the promise of radical transparency of Javier Milei’s government.
The official corrected his statement to include more than USD 500,000 in hidden crypto assets.
Manuel Adorni, chief of staff and confidant of President Javier Milei, is at the center of a political storm after being forced to correct his sworn asset declaration. The modification incorporates more than half a million dollars in bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrencies that the official had kept hidden from official records until now.
Adorni’s explanation to justify the “sudden appearance” of these funds is based on the past. According to the official, the money comes from Bitcoin purchases made in 2014, a time when the digital currency was trading at a modest USD 300 or USD 400. Having kept those assets, Its holdings multiplied in line with the current price, which is around USD 60,000.
However, the argument of “passive fortune” generates deep suspicions in a government that made fiscal purity its main banner. The revelation of this hidden heritage directly impacts the discursive waterline of Milei, who came to power qualifying the State as “a rat’s nest” and promising relentless transparency.
The scrutiny is especially acute in a country where Digital assets are an economic survival mechanism in the face of historic inflation of the weight. In this scenario, one in four Argentines resorts to the environment of digital assets to protect its savings, which turns citizens into judges very familiar with the rules of the game.
The verdict of the digital street
That same familiarity is what set off alarms in the community, who see the omission as a deliberate maneuver. Santiago Siri, a renowned Argentine technologist specialized in the matter, harshly questioned the veracity of the official story.
“It’s pretty outrageous to see a self-confessed tax evader at the top of power,” Siri said, adding that the official “lied to our faces all this year.” The specialist recalled that Bitcoin technology records every movement publicly. “A prosecutor could make a very precise observation of all those money movements,” Siri added.
The technical indignation found an immediate echo in the digital streets, where the political impact is already measurable. A report by the consulting firm Digital Reputation revealed that 82% of mentions directed at Adorni on social networks were negative, with users demanding that Congress intervene through a motion of censure.
Along with the technical warnings, social networks began to dismantle the official alibi, exposing the official’s own contradictions and suspicions of fraud.
The SailorSatanArg account revived an archive of video of 2022 where Adorni himself stated: «I understand that cryptocurrencies are the future. But (…) I am a dollar guy. Many highlight this detail that they describe as false in his profile as a long-term investor.
The user ericaherz rescued an educational video from the Lemon platform corresponding to the year 2021, where Adorni himself, in his role as a teacher, admitted that, “in 2015/2016 I saw my students buying bitcoin in class and I did not understand anything they did.” This record directly contradicts his current defense before the media.
Others were ironic with go for a walk Let’s see if they were lucky enough to “find a pendrive with bitcoin like what happened to Manuel Adorni.” The indignation quickly mutated into a criticism of the core of power; as the user summarized veronicaiaok: «The worrying thing is no longer Adorni, he did not find bitcoin, he found the Argentines’ wallet. The worrying thing is a President and an entire cabinet coming out to cover it.
An invisible witness
For the moment, the political scene remains in a tense state of waiting. Adorni remains firm in his position and President Milei has remained silent, without announcing disciplinary measures or internal audits, while a judicial investigation has not yet been formalized in the federal courtsas previously reported by CriptoNoticias.
However, the implications are profound because the case exposes the double-edged nature of digital assets in public management.
Although Adorni tries to use the ecosystem as a gray area for anonymity and opacity, the forensic accounting of cryptocurrency networks can be so useful that, if a criminal case is opened, the technology itself will become the main witness for the prosecution.
